This is my second year taking French at school now and I overheard our teacher mumbling something to another teacher about how Quebec may want to separate from Canada. Being only ten years old I don’t exactly understand why they would want to be their own nation but the bigger question on my mind was, “will we have to still continue learning French?”
I do have some ties with Quebec and am actually quite fluent in French when speaking with a few of my relatives and it’s important to expand your knowledge of other cultures but French class is soooo boring. I mean we will listen to these cassette tapes of people conversing in French but I can never hear what they’re saying. They also speak really fast and use a lot of words that none of us recognize. The exercise is to simply hear how they pronounce words and what verbs they use. That doesn’t help so much because you get so frustrated that you don’t understand the conversation and feel like an idiot!
The upside in French Class. Telefrancais! That show is the definition of random. Dancing skeletons and a talking pineapple that jumps out of planes. I’d like to see Barney pull that off. This program actually teaches me French better than any cassette tape.
Hopefully Quebec decides to stick around because as long as I have Annanais I’ll have little problem reading all the French sides of signs and cereal boxes.
